Shade seemed to be one of the major trends at the MTV VMAs last night – mostly thrown in Taylor Swift’s direction. Calvin Harris took all the credit and chose to leave her out of his “This Is What You Came For” acceptance speech. I would have too. Notably missing: most of her squad. Seriously, I LIVE for a Gigi red carpet moment… Where was she? And where was Selena? I guarantee Taylor blackmailed them into staying home.
Rihanna set the tone and opened the VMAs with a cotton candy pink (that red lip though!), cardio-filled performance. Ariana Grande (who’s dating Mac Miller now?) kept the pink theme going by spinning her way through a performance with Nicki Minaj.
The Z-list comedians who commentated the evening were uber annoying. To be fair, G-Eazy does look like he escaped from Grease: Live, but like, that was the only funny thing they contributed the entire three hours. It was weird to see Michael Phelps in clothes. Naomi Campbell’s sparkly red lip gave me life while Nick Jonas’ performance at the Tick Tock diner gave me a craving for bacon. Does anyone else think the ending of Kanye’s “Fade” video was inspired by all the dog filters on Snapchat?
Beyonce reminded everyone why she is Queen. Drake professed his love for Rihanna. Drew Taggart felt up Halsey while performing their No. 1 song, “Closer” – I have aspbergers tendencies when it comes to The Chainsmokers, so they get my vote for best performance of the show.
Lingering Thoughts: How did Kim Kardashian’s hair stay wet that long? What a time to be named Becky, no? Is anyone home in Britney’s head? Her performance left me wanting more all while feeling completely empty inside.
