The Secret Ingredient

Primer. A substance used as a preparatory coat on unpainted wood, metal, or canvas, especially to prevent the absorption of subsequent layers of paint or the development of rust. Humans also like to use something similar to smooth facial skin before applying makeup.

Word of the day: Spackle.

Like a Fern turned into a Violet (see above clip), you need to learn it, live it, love it.

When Laura Geller first introduced Spackle to me, I never realized the importance of incorporating primer into a makeup regimen. Allergy and flu season can really do a number on your face. See: Puffs tissue commercials. With a few dabs of green concealer (yes, green – to counter the red) and a coat of Spackle, your skin will be revived with a flawlessly smooth finish. Lots of days, I’ll skip the foundation and just use a blush and powder – the Spackle is THAT good. Obviously adding the cherry on top of the sundae – a red lip, preferably Chanel.
