67th Primetime Emmy Awards: HBO is a Go

Jon Hamm Emmys

Last night’s Emmy Awards were equal parts historic and hilarious.

Andy Samberg hosted and is clearly obsessed with Robert Durst. I mean, I totally get it – The Jinx was absolutely fascinating. Did anyone catch the R. Durst cameo in the opener? Andy later went on to introduce presenter, Viola Davis, as “someone who knows how to get away with murder and someone who doesn’t” hinting that the serial killer himself would be presenting with her. He didn’t.

Viola Davis Emmy Win

Speaking of Viola – dressed for a win in Carmen Marc Valvo – she made history last night as the first African American woman to take home an Emmy for Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her performance in How to Get Away with Murder. If you haven’t seen the show, you NEED to binge watch before the Season 2 premiere this Thursday. Best. Show. Ever.

Other highlights of the evening included Jon Hamm crawling on stage to (finally!) accept his Emmy for Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Mad Men, Andy Samberg giving out his “personal” (and functioning) HBO Now password, and HBO making a clean sweep for Best Outstanding Drama (Game of Thrones) AND Comedy Series (Veep). Not too shabby.

Complete List of Winners.

Let’s talk red carpet fashion…

An hour and a half into the E! Red Carpet, I was angrily texting back and forth with my sister. Literally neither of us liked any of the looks and everyone was fixated on Kiernan Shipka‘s “fabulous” Dior look. Form your own opinion on this one. Let’s just say I’d wear it to work, but not the Emmys.

Finally January Jones showed up in an emerald green jumpsuit looking like a Disney Princess. This girl is always one of my red carpet favorites and luckily, she kicked off a steady stream of wonderful looks (phew!).

Emma Roberts (in Jenny Packham) and Lady Gaga (in Brandon Maxwell) chose to go “old Hollywood glam” both looking like movie stars from the 1940s and 50s. Jimmy Fallon agreed.

Off-the-shoulder looks weren’t just all over the NYFW runways last week. Sarah Hyland (in Zac Posen) and Sarah Paulson (in Prabal Gurung) brought the look to the West Coast.

My Best Dressed of the evening? Kerry Washington in Labourjoisie – hands down. Apparently Los Angeles was a scorching 97 degrees (Olivia Culpo can confirm) yesterday. Kerry’s mesh dress kept her cool with the weather and looking chic as f@ck.

I can’t wait to compare my opinions with the E! Fashion Police later tonight. Share your best and worst dressed in thecomments below – I need to know now!
